Garden Photography: A Japanese Garden in Northern Ireland

Three days of garden photography captured this Northern Ireland home’s mature planting, koi ponds and spring blossom.

Beyond the gates and tree-lined drive, the garden gradually opens up around the house. Paths lead between acers, water and sheltered seating areas, with something different to photograph at each turn.

Garden photography at walking pace

The pond offered several viewpoints, from reflections beneath the trees to fish near the surface. Wider photographs established the layout, while closer compositions picked out planting and places to sit.

Mixing those views gives a sense of moving through the garden.

Timing the spring coverage

Photography took place over three days in late spring, with cherry blossom in flower and buds still on the magnolias. The colour and light were central to the finished collection.

If the garden is a major part of a property’s appeal, it is worth discussing photography before the marketing deadline. That leaves time to plan around the planting and conditions.
